The Rebecca Katherine/Katherine Spencer Project (RK/KS) is a photographic exploration and appropriation of “The Idealized Female.” Our method is to use the form of avant-garde fashion photography to depict women in nontraditional ways.

This collaboration between model and photographer subverts the traditional power dynamic present in fashion photography. The model is free to express herself in front of a photographer who is not judging or directing her as a female commodity. As women, we struggle to maintain our integrity despite the confines of the male gaze.

Our goal is to showcase women as human beings in their full potential. Serving as our own subjects, we speak to our experiences of feeling human and being considered female.
